As an the program of study ENS 201-Environmental Studies and Disaster Management, students from the 2023 batch visited Kurunkadu Forest at the Madhanur riverbed. They interacted with the survey area to make a variety of observations, such as species occurring, frequency, abundance, and habitats available in the survey area, as well as the utilization pattern of the survey area, whether resources are polluted or degraded and the type of degradation, as well as the cause and effects of the pollution. Students engage in conversations with locals regarding the history and usage patterns of the resources. The pupils recognized grazing cattle. Man-made activities and sand robberies cause degradation of resources. Understanding the Palar River environment and how the local population and wildlife use it. Plastics, household rubbish, and solid waste were disposed of beneath the Palar River Bridge. Identified that the Palar River bed is contaminated close to the Raganathar temples in the Pallikonda town boundaries. Locals who lived close to the riverbed were surveyed and interviewed over the effects of the 2021 flood pandemic at Itharpuram in Pallikonda, Vellore district.
